ABOUT US
AND OUR WONDERFUL WADIS
WHAT IS A WADI DOG?
For those of you who don’t know, or are new to the page, a Wadi Dog is the name given to the native dogs of Oman.
A Wadi is (in certain Arabic-speaking countries) a valley, ravine or channel that is dry except in the rainy season & the native wild dogs take their name from this.
The dogs are thought to originate from Arabian Village Dogs (the oldest known breed) or Salukis - both breeds which pre-date modern dog breeds and were prevalent in the Middle East.
The Wadi Dogs have a distinctive look (slim build, long legs & tail & big ears) but in reality the term refers to any feral dog in Oman and you can sometimes see where other breeds have mixed in - Labrador mix and German Shepherd mix being popular.
As a general rule wadi dogs are very intelligent, faithful, trusting, fast, sofa loving & cheeky - in every way WONDERFUL!
WHAT DO WE DO?
When a dog is first rescued and comes into our care, they are taken to the vets for an initial health check. Many of the dogs come to us with injuries that need treating first then once in better health, we vaccinate, neuter, microchip, de-worm, & de-flea them. When we have the funds, we get as many dogs as possible titer tested so that they can live abroad!
WHERE DO OUR DOGS LIVE?
In March 2024 we set up a new location to house our rescue dogs. We call it “The Farm” and it’s currently home to 13 rescued wadi dogs. We also have 13 dogs in paid boarding who we cannot move to the farm until the weather gets cooler in October because these dogs have never lived outside and are therefore not used to the extreme summer temperatures in Oman. A very few of our dogs are in foster homes
HOW DO WE FUNDRAISE?
We rely entirely on fundraising and donations to enable us to carry out our rescue efforts. Our fundraising volunteers organise fundraising events such as; bingo/ quiz nights, car boot sales and online auctions to fund our ongoing vets bills, running costs of the farm and travel costs for the dogs who are adopted to homes abroad.
If you would like to make a donation, we have three GoFundMe Campaigns. Please click on one of the buttons below if you would like to make a donation, or visit our donation page. Thank you!
